For one reason or another, children have a natural tendency to love the bad stuff and dislike the good stuff. Meaning it would be a lot easier for you to get your children to eat pizza and french fries, than it would be for you to get them to eat a salad. But they are at a tender age, where the foods that they get accustomed to now, will be the types of food that they have a preference for down the line. And with obesity on the rise, by instilling healthy eating habits within your children, you will essentially be setting up the foundation for an adult that has a fond love for eating healthier that the average person.
One of the most effective ways that you can get your children to eat fruits and vegetables is to plan your meals ahead of time so that you can slowly introduce them to different fruits and vegetables each time you create a meal. The key to this, is to offer them a well balanced meal that they will get accustomed to having. A good rule of thumb to remember is to diverse the meal into 3 different groups which are: a carbohydrate source such as bread, pasta and rice, a protein source such as eggs, beef and chicken and a vegetable or fruit source such as salads, green peas, apple.
Another great way that you can use to get your kids to eat vegetables, is by introducing some creativity to their meals. While a child may not like the thought of eating a few slices of cucumbers instead of a few french fries. By utilising a cookie cutter to shape those cucumbers into various objects such as a star, for example, they'll be much more willing to eat stars as opposed to a strange 'green circular sliced thing'.
Research has shown that children are much more likely to do something that they don't necessarily want to do, if they know that they will be rewarded for it. In this case, you can create positive food experiences by rewarding them with something such as a sticker, whenever they try a different fruit or vegetable.
Children are much more likely to eat something that they choose or help to prepare. The next time you go to the grocery store, give them the opportunity to choose something that they will eventually help mommy or daddy to cook later. Because even though they may not like your carrots, they may like theirs.
At the end of the day, you are in charge of the things that enter into your household not your children. By cutting down on the ratio of junk food you have in comparison to fruits and vegetables, you can essentially push your child to eat healthier. For example, instead of buying potato chips and cookies for one week, maybe you can supplement that for fruits and pita chips instead.
Juicing is the art of extracting the liquids and thus the nutrients, out of fruits and vegetables. This is arguably the best and most effective way that you can get a child to consume fruits and vegetables. For example, imagine how amazed your child will be to see that putting a few strawberries and grapes, into this magical instrument, will turn them into her/his favourite 'Strawberry flavoured Snapple juice'. And as time progresses, you can gradually move on from different fruits and vegetables as soon as they get used to the taste.
